I'm inclined to agree with this, and also
's point about safe spaces. In this instance I do think that a contributor should have a greater degree of access to decision-making processes and spaces for private interaction than an observer, partly because I feel this would nurture and encourage participation, but also because
was born in an environment where consciously and openly questioning established Western-centric narratives and Orientalism in steampunk haven't always led to pleasant experiences -- and, for that matter, sometimes involves ourselves having to unpack our own privileges and internalised assumptions.
